In brief. The study assessed the relationship between FinTech development and entrepreneurial ecosystems in ten European countries in 2011, 2014, 2017 and 2021 (composite indices built from 25 and 6 variables). It found a significant positive association in all countries; FinTech strengthened ecosystems mainly through networks, demand and intermediate services.
Implications.
- The technological dimension of FinTech is a driving force of entrepreneurial ecosystems.
- Economic policies should take it into account when revising support for entrepreneurship.
